“Mary was my Math teacher from 2005 till 2007. Yes! 15 years have passed, but a great teacher like her can affect eternity. It’s impossible to tell where the influence stops. She didn’t only teach me math and took me from zero to hero in a short period of time, but she also rebuilt my confidence, gave me life lessons and even shaped the person I am today. Her creatively unique teaching philosophy inspired me to pursue a teaching career, so I also studied Mathematics and became a teacher. I still remember the passion she used to put into her work, how fun and engaging her sessions were and the way she used to cater to the different learning styles. “Learning a language takes patience, time, and hardwork, but you can start any time. My teacher, Salwa, has always encouraged me. Just as I entered highschool, I started taking lessons and there have been major improvements throughout this year. When I first started to learn French with Salwa, I wished to be fluent so I could have back and forth conversations with others who also spoke french. Being able to understand, listen, and simply communicate with others in a different language is just fascinating to me, and French is such a beautiful language. Growing up I would hear French songs playing in cafes, and when I actually visited France earlier on, the memories stuck with me. When I go back one day, I can be fluent with my French and understand my surroundings better! Prior to starting the lessons with Salwa, I had taken some lessons before but I had a lack of confidence in my speaking, and it took me a while to search for the right vocabulary during conversations, making it harder for me to  speak with a flow. Once I met Salwa, she taught me not to be afraid of speaking. During the lessons, I was not nervous to make mistakes anymore because I knew she was there to help me. Sometimes it’s important to step outside of your comfort zone and understand that it is okay to stutter- that’s what having a teacher is for! Since then, I have improved on speaking, searching for the right vocabulary, and building up better grammar/pronunciation. In the lessons, Salwa customizes the lesson based on what she believes would best help me improve, allowing me to improve on many aspects of French learning. Afterall, each student is different. Additionally, my 7 year old brother takes lessons with her as well. Salwa is able to match his pace and have patience, giving my brother a comfortable learning environment. I have been so thankful for these lessons and having Salwa teach me the beauty of French. Now I am not simply just learning French, I am enjoying and improving! Le français, c’est génial!”

 “When I first started to work with Salwa, I wanted to learn more conversational French.

The reason I wanted to take lessons was that I didn’t feel confident when talking to my cousins and their friends (who are all native speakers) using what I learned in my high school French class and it was frustrating.

That’s why I wanted to find another way to practice and get better because my French classes were not enough to make me express myself when I talk.

Since I started working with Salwa, I started feeling more confident with the structure of a conversation in French. I have learned some new vocabulary and am less hesitant with conversations.

“Where should I begin? My family’s journey started with Ms. Aoun when my daughter and I were feeling very overwhelmed about where and how we could manage to help her pass her Math class. I stumbled upon Ms. Aoun’s website while searching for one on one math tutors and I am so grateful and happy Ms. Aoun could accommodate us. My daughter had fallen behind in class, and was failing in Math. She had a lot of difficulties understanding the concepts and did not feel confident and was scared to even attempt tests fearing failure. She kept trying to catch up and tried retaking the tests she had failed with no improvement and continued to fail in tests and assessments. She would also feel a lot of pressure and overwhelm from having to compete with her peers and being one of the few kids that failed the class brought a great deal of pressure on her both physically and emotionally. “Mary is a savior! My daughter was struggling with Algebra 2 during the beginning of her freshman year. In previous years, math had always taken more time than other subjects, and this year especially, we recognized that she seemed to have a lot of gaps (probably due to covid) going into the year. She was spending 3hrs a night just on math homework, often ending in frustration and tears. By the third week of school her confidence in her math abilities was at rock bottom. I reached out to the school asking for a math tutor and they referred me to Mary. Well thank goodness!
